The description of Simple Staff is given below:
This collection is a flexible, supplemental resource for learning to read music on the staff. While this is not a complete method book, it can be used with various method books and approaches. A large number of pieces are included in this set so that teachers have the flexibility to choose which pieces are best for each student.
To focus on reading, each piece is written in only one clef, and aspects of music, such as time signatures, dynamics, articulation, tempo markings, finger numbers, etc., have been intentionally omitted.
The pieces are patterned and loosely progress in difficulty within each clef. Although the pieces have a very limited range of notes, this is not to reinforce a middle C hand position, but to simplify the amount of notes students are reading at this stage. Students can split a piece between the hands, use the same finger for the whole piece, or play with only one hand and then the other.
As they learn these pieces, students can discover the meter, rhythmic patterns, and melodic patterns of each piece. Students can experiment with pedal, dynamics, tempo, different octaves, repetitions, and playing with different hands or fingers. Students can also transpose and improvise on the pieces, create simple duet parts for them, or play sightreading games with them!
The collection with descriptive titles is intended for younger students while the numbered collection is for older students or adults if they prefer. The numbered collection is the same as the titled collection, simply without the descriptive titles.
This is a studio licensed product, so teachers who purchase this product are allowed to print copies of the pieces for their current students (see the Permission to Use page in the Gallery for more details).
